The first of the new seasons crop of young Bambi lookalike fawns recently began to make an appearance on the nature reserve, although the mums are very protective and a little more skittish, moving off into the bracken when they see any movement, visitors staying in the hire fleet can see the young fawns whilst sitting outside on the decking veranda or through the picture windows. The fawns are similar to new born lambs, and have bouts of energetic running around and leaping in the air as if on springs, then followed by sleeping the exercise off in the bracken clumps that give them refuge.
Each year we see them appear around mid June onwards in the nature reserve and then as they grow in strength and confidence they come onto the park with their Mum`s, sometimes taking flight back to the woods after becoming frightened before gingerly coming back down again to the park.
From August onwards the mature Stags begin to gather near the park, in readiness for the contest to become the Master Buck in the October Rut, the locking of horns, struggles for dominance and the calling out of the victor are evident for a few weeks during that Autumn period.
